Nubia Emmon is a talented creative out of Austin, Texas who possesses a diverse palette of artistic expression. The singer, rapper and songwriter has an expansive music background deeply seeded in her family roots and she has manifested such influences into a flourishing career in the music industry.

Over the years, Nubia has solidified her unique brand of hip-hop and R&B within industry circles via her role in a significant number of collaborations on records, performances in several showcases, as well as performing in shows across various parts of the U.S. Nubia brings a multi-faceted repertoire to the table as she can belt out a song in pristine harmony with her rich, soulful vocals while also having the ability to seamlessly rap with a melodic flow and precision that displays her adeptness as an emcee.

Nubia has exhibited her dynamic skillset on such previously released singles Hooked On Your Love and Sad and Blue, two tracks which take you on a nostalgic journey back into that classic R&B/hip-hop sound of the 90’s that spurred on a plethora of hits in that era by artists we all know and love.

Sticking with that formula of sound, Nubia reveals a new single in 2022 titled “Trip”, a buoyant track with a seductive mystique driven by the top-notch production of DSII and Nubia’s sultry vocal performance singing the lead verses and catchy hook. Essentially, the song’s concept has Nubia loosening some inhibitions and allowing herself to just live in the moment and enjoy the experiences of an emerging romance.

She conveys the theme masterfully through her vocal inflections and an expressive delivery that captures the type of emotions one would experience in these circumstances to a tee…. and of course in typical Nubia fashion, she drops a spitfire rap verse in the midst of the track that throws you for a pleasant loop, flow on point…and then she flawlessly returns back to her ear-catching harmonies on the singing end, even invoking the Ginuwine 90’s classic “Pony” which we’ll get to in a few:).

Nubia explains the concept and compelling backstory to “Trip” in further detail as she expresses, “I just really wanted to step outside the box and write something totally different from my norm. “The song is about really just letting go and letting things happen naturally when it comes to relationships and releasing serotonin through the process. I named it Trip because who doesn’t like going on trips? It’s always a good time—an escape from reality.” Regarding the verse from Ginuwine, Nubia shares…..

“Even though I had no business listening to him, he was one of my favorite artists coming up. The verse came about accidentally. My sister was in the studio with Danny (the Producer) and at the time of recording, she says ‘when you say get up on it–it reminds me of a Pony,’ so I jokingly said let’s add it at the end but upon completing it, it sounded amazing so we kept it. So, I contacted Danny with just the skeletons of the track—the idea. He created the music, I filled in the blanks and boom Trip was born.”

DSII also chimes in and elaborates “Nubia came up with the lyrics and I came up with different concepts of what it could sound like. She ended up choosing this version and Trip was born. Recording it was a very organic process and I believe you can hear and feel that in this record.

Definitely we do! Nubia and DSII paired up for a tremendous hip-hop/R&B collab that will impact lovers of both genres across a wide demographic. “Trip” is available on all streaming platforms and you can listen to it via the Spotify link below. Nubia Emmon Bio

Reminiscent of the nostalgic 90s when R&B/Hip Hop music was as versatile as its artists, Nubia Emmon reminds us of that groundbreaking and exhilarating time period. She brings a cool laid back swag, an energetic spontaneity, and her own unique artistry to the music scene.

She can move easily between performing danceable club tracks to a slow ballad such as “At Last” by Etta James. As unassuming as she is, Nubia will you tell you she is your everyday home girl, but make no mistake about it, this R&B Singer/Rapper Nubia Emmon is the total package.  From the “Capital of Live Music” – Austin, Texas she comes from music royalty: Carnival Beats–a family of artists including multi-platinum producer Salih Williams who was responsible for a slew of hits including Still Tippin’ (Mike Jones), Draped Up (Bun B), My 64 (Mike Jones), Sittin’ Sideways (Paul Wall) among other hits, her Uncle Tomar of Tomar & the FCs and her father Karriem Williams who is her manager.

“Although I was just born in the 90s, I love the music of that era when R&B was dating Hip Hop,” she laughingly says. Now it seems like that particular style of R&B is losing its identity while a lot of the rap music is all hard-core. I want to show that you can have good ol fashion R&B and that Rap music doesn’t have to be all hardcore and that you can merge the two.”

Realizing what it takes: sacrifice and hard work, whether she is working in the studio, at shows, in the community or with other artists, Nubia’s dream is to become a world class performer. Her fans seem to believe this too as she has been voted #1 by Austin listeners (Best Radio R&B Artist, Best Female Radio Song and Best Female R&B Live). Not restricted to Texas, she’s also placed first in various showcases in New York and Atlanta as well as performing throughout Texas, Mississippi, Illinois, and Phoenix, Arizona. Nubia is adamant about supporting other artists and has performed in duets and with live bands, including her uncle’s band, “Tomar & the FCs”. She has done countless collaborations which included Def Jam’s former recording artist, Lil Niqo, who jumped on her track ‘Dancing Machine’. Further exercising her versatility as an artist, Nubia had a cameo role in the movie “The Holy Spoof” starring Rapper Paul Wall, Ms. Mykie and Dough Beezy, and she has graced the covers of fashion and cultural publications.

On a personal tip, Nubia says she has experiences like a lot of young people which makes it easy to sing about issues that young people go through. She grew up in a working class home, experienced the turmoil of her parent’s divorce, relocating, losing friends, gaining friends, new schools, dealing with her parent’s remarrying and finally graduating and charting her course as an artist under the guidance and watchful eye of her father, a former A&R who is also her manager. “This is why a lot of my earlier songs are about relationships—they had such an impact on my life during a trying time.”

When asked why she doesn’t put more sexuality in her performances and dress style, Nubia is pretty straightforward about it. “It works for some artist and I don’t feel I need to judge anyone–that’s just their personal style. I have to do what feels comfortable for me and the way I like to express myself.” Blessed with striking good looks, Nubia feels pretty strong about showcasing her artistic gifts primarily. “All things real, I know the industry is very image driven for women—and I can’t ignore that,” she says “but I think you can strike a happy medium between artistic expression and appearance.” My Dad says aim for longevity in the business and when I look at great artists who have been around a long time, it’s their talent that stood the test of time.”

As fate would have it, the unexpected, unpredicted and unforeseen happened: her Mom was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2011 and passed on November 21, 2013—less than 2 years after the cancer was discovered. It was devastating. Nubia tweeted, “my Mother taught me everything except how to live without her.”

With the help of her team, Nubia Emmon is using her talent in music to give back to the community through The Nubia Emmon Foundation, which focuses on breast cancer awareness and motivating youth towards success. One of her signature projects is the “Pretty Girls that Rock the Mic” benefit concert. The purpose is to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer awareness/research and to showcase the talent and diversity among female artists in Texas. The first show was a smashing success and led to an ongoing relationship with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer/Austin Affiliate. Nubia and her team have consistently promoted involvement in the annual Komen/Austin Race for the Cure of which Nubia has kicked off the event since 2012 by singing the National Anthem as well as participating and racing with her team.

Nubia Emmon—who also aspires to be a philanthropist has goals of joining the ranks of other great artists who have been trail blazers. But keeping it all in perspective, she says, “the music business is very fast paced. If you don’t keep up and stay up, you can quickly become irrelevant. Still, I try to always stay focused on what’s important because in the end I want to be remembered as someone who actually made a difference and never compromised who I am for fame or money.”
