The popular MTV Video Awards (VMAs) are back and the complete list of nominees has been revealed by the media giant. Taylor Swift and SZA lead the way with eight and six nominations respectively while several artists are tied at five each. The list also includes a number of first-time nominees so it should definitely be an exciting evening as winners are announced, as well as the collection of talent slated to perform during the event.

And the winner is?!?…..Congratulations to A’TIN worldwide as Billboard announced that SB19 has won the 2023 FAN ARMY Face-Off. Thanks to a herculean effort by the dedicated fanbase, their Mahalima (an affectionate term A’TIN created to refer to SB19 as well as show their adoration for the group) came out on top for this contest which began in July consisting of five rounds.

Shoutout as well to the CARATS, the fanbase of Korean boy group SEVENTEEN, whose efforts landed their favorite group in the Finals vs. SB19.

Charts

The mesmerizing collaboration between BTS’ Jungkook and Latto, “Seven”, continues its stronghold across multiple Billboard charts, including claiming the #1 spots on the Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US for the third week.

Anniversaries

The 9-member Japanese idol group Snow Man made a special post commemorating the 4-year anniversary of their debut announcement during the Johnny’s Jr. 8.8 Matsuri 〜Tokyo Dome kara Hajimaru〜 concert at the Tokyo Dome on August 8, 2019.

Since their debut, Snow Man has enjoyed an extremely successful run! The group has released three studio albums, each surpassing 1 million sales, as well as a series of RIAJ 3x Platinum certified, Oricon chart topping singles such as “Orange Kiss”, “Brother Beat” and “Hello Hello” to name a few.

Their latest single titled “Dangerholic” is a boommode track sure to follow in the smashing footsteps of the previous ones.

Concert Tours / Live Performances

Veteran New York City news personality Rosanna Scotto posted that an SB19 performance on the morning show she hosts, “Good Day New York” will air August 9. SB19 was recently in New York City for a performance at Webster Hall as part of their PAGTATAG! World Tour.

This is becoming a tradition for the boys to stop by Good Day New York whenever they are in the Big Apple as they performed on the program last year during the ‘WYAT World Tour’

A P-pop bonanza is in store for Sunday, August 13, 4:00pm PHT as PLUUS and YGIG will take center stage at the Fisher Mall in the Malabon section of Manila, Philippines.

The PLUUS fan account PLUUS Trends posted an announcement to their social media highlighting the upcoming event. August has already been an incredible month for PLUUS and YGIG respectively as they each recently performed at the KPOP CON in Korea.

In Memoriam

DJ Casper (also known as “Mr. C the Slide Man”), renowned as the creator of the world-famous “Cha Cha Slide,” passed away at the age of 58 after a lengthy battle with kidney and liver cancer.

The “Cha Cha Slide” has been an integral part of parties, gatherings, weddings, cookouts and frankly any type of scenario where people come together and there’s music available, you’re likely going to hear this track getting people to dance in unison.

The worldwide phenomenon has attracted over 133 million views to the official music video (Watch below) released 14 years ago. The song also placed on several international charts, including reaching #1 on the UK Singles charts. “Cha Cha Slide” peaked at #83 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #24 on the Billboard R&B charts.

DJ Casper was born William Perry Jr. in Chicago, Illinois on May 31, 1965.
