Von Price is a 23-year-old emerging producer who is primed to put the hip-hop world on notice as he brings a dynamic production and beat making style to the game. Von’s artistry is manifested from a passion for music developed early in childhood. Hailing from Edward, Mississippi, Von’s music background is steeped heavily in his family roots which contain a large number of singers and musicians, including a well-known DJ.
With this extensive exposure to the joys of music, it’s no surprise that Von would cultivate his upbringing into an extremely promising career as a recording artist officially releasing his boommode instrumental compositions to the world. Just starting his professional music journey this year, Von has been on a prolific pace, having already dropped four singles and a 3-track-EP titled First Step which features the song of today’s spotlight, “Say Yes”.
“Say Yes” is an instrumental that is soul music personified atop a core-based hip-hop percussion. Von displays his adept production skills as he masterfully incorporates vocal interpolations, phrases from the chorus and samples into the beat from the 2002 smash hit by Floetry of the same title.
The fusion of sounds and styles truly amplifies the magnetism of this production. It has a jazz club, laid back lounge type of vibe with a twist of neo soul that floors you as it drapes a prominent drum track boasting stutters reminiscent of the style that dominated the 90’s wave of hip-hop productions.
Referring back to the brilliant use of the original track by Floetry, I am also impressed with the sound design as the hook from the song is layered in a low-cut filtered, almost telephone vocal effect type of sound. It adds a mystique to the song that also drives its appeal. The beat rides seamlessly as you hear Floetry ominously in the background capping it off with “You make me so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, ah”.
