The music journey of singer and recording artist Kenneth Laurente has taken an exceptional path of twists and turns that have ultimately provided the backdrop for the inspiration of his burgeoning professional music career. The Philippines-born, Los Angeles based artist has had an extensive music history over the last decade and a half serving as a member of a variety of church-based choirs and choral organizations in both the Philippines and the United States, which he immigrated to in 2011.
Having completed service in the U.S. Army for eight years and also earning his bachelor’s degree in nursing in the Philippines, the extremely accomplished Laurente has sights on manifesting his musical talents into a formidable career as a solo artist and the results have been flourishing thus far. Laurente has released four singles to date and today we’re going to spotlight one of them which is an extremely heartfelt, poignant song titled “Why” in which Laurente ‘s rich and engaging tenor vocals fill the soundscape with a captivating, impassioned performance. Laurente teamed up with two of his best friends on the “Why” project. Neitodesu (real name, Jonathan Plantilla) composed the song, and it was mixed and mastered by Japè Tucciné (real name, Jape Garcia).
“Why” is a Christian Contemporary song that’s compelling in that it musically presents itself in the form of Laurente engaged either in prayer or just speaking to God in a moment of seeking clarity in life. The spiritual connotations activate your mental imagery with its expressive lyricism; content that innately causes you to reflect on your own state of being. Regardless of where you may stand with your spirituality, “Why” is a very relatable song across the board as it touches on concepts that affect us all at some point.
Laurente explains how “Why” came to fruition as he explains “With all these things happening in this world especially since we made this song last year amidst the pandemic, you can’t deny that sometimes you’re asking these questions. We dedicate this song to our loved ones who were affected by COVID-19.“
Laurente masterfully conveys these emotions in “Why” as his vocals beam over a minimalist acoustic guitar instrumentation that is pristinely crisp, drawing you in with each pluck and note. The stripped down sonics are a spectacular precursor to when the song dramatically opens up into a full-on bonanza of instruments, including a violin, piano and strings…. Through it all, Laurente exhibits a sensational vocal dynamism that displays his adeptness as a vocal performer. Laurente is able to draw you in with a gentle, mellow presentation in certain sections and then seamlessly shift to carrying out the song in a demonstrative, powerfully commanding fashion.

More About Kenneth Laurente
Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, he moved to Los Angeles at the age of 21. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Nursing at The Philippine Women’s University (PWU) and earned himself a partial scholarship for joining and singing for Philippine Women’s University Chorale.
He’s a former member and soloist of St. John Bosco Chorale, a church-based choir in Makati City, Philippines, and joined them on two International Tours in Canada (2008) and Singapore (2010).
In 2011, he immigrated to the United States and joined The US Army as a mechanic (2011-2019). Under the leadership of Ed Nepomuceno, he became the newest member of The Harana Men’s Chorus of LA in 2014. Last October 2021, he was on tour with Bamboo and Arnel Pineda of “The Journey” on their First Light Concert tour under Amore Entertainment. His last concert was A night of Pop and RnB alongside Philippine King of RNB Jay R, Garth Garcia, Jej Vinson, and Bryan Termulo. Kenneth just released his 4th single “Worth it,” feat. Neitodesu, available on all Music Steaming Platforms Worldwide.
Now that he’s out of the military, Kenneth wants to focus on his career as a solo artist. He’s looking forward to this new chapter in his life and is grateful to God for the wonderful gift of music.
