NEWS PROVIDED BY : UNIVERSAL MUSIC CANADA

“In the course of my life and career i’ve made hundreds of music videos. But this might be my favorite of all of the videos i’ve made…as you’ll see, the amazing Steve Cutts and I have revisited the original ‘why does my heart feel so bad’ video. I hope you love it as much as i do.“ – MOBY

Moby first emerged as a pioneer of electronic music in the 90s. Since then, he’s not only put his own unique stamp on club culture and EDM, but has also composed songs rich in emotional nuance.

The mournful “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?”, a song about the melancholy we all feel at times for no obvious reason, became a career-defining track. Now Moby has created a brand-new orchestral version, with vocals from Apollo Jane and Deitrick Haddon.

The new single is accompanied by a music video focusing on issues that have long been close to the artist’s heart – animal rights, environmental protection and climate change.

Moby has joined forces again with British illustrator and animator Steve Cutts, creator of videos for “Are You Lost in the World Like Me” (2016) and “In This Cold Place” (2017).

Cutts’ entirely hand-drawn animated film for “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?” features the star of the original video of 1999 (dir. Susi Wilkinson, Hotessa Laurence, Filipe Alçada) – Moby’s alter ego Little Idiot, with his big expressive eyes.

He and his pet dog embark on another journey to Earth from the moon, finding a troubled world full of angry people fighting over nothing.

On board their trusty wheelbarrow, the pair fly around the planet, witnessing rainforests in flames, huge shoals of fish and other sea life being netted, farm animals crowded into an abattoir, and so on.

A trick of the artistic imagination offers solutions to these crises – Little Idiot lassoes a glass of water from the drawing board to put out the fires and an eraser appears to rub a hole in the fishing nets.

The video highlights Moby’s views on the damage being done to the Earth today, illustrating the complex interplay of different environmental issues and encouraging us to feel greater empathy with animals and the natural world. It shows us we can save the planet – if we’re prepared to fight for it.
