Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, better known professionally as Gangsta Boo, and a member of the original Three 6 Mafia lineup, was found dead in her home in Memphis, Tennessee on January 1, 2023.

The groundbreaking rapper was just 43 years old. At the time of this article, no official cause of death or circumstances surrounding her passing have been disclosed.

According to NPR, Gangsta Boo’s family has released a statement which expresses, “The Mitchell family would like to thank everyone for their condolences regarding the untimely death of Lola ‘Gangsta Boo’ Mitchell. The family is asking for your continued prayers and privacy as we process the loss of our loved one.”

Gangsta Boo’s untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout the rap industry as she not only left an indelible footprint as a luminary for female southern rappers in her multi-platinum recordings as a member of Three 6 Mafia, but she also went on to collaborate with a number of high profile rappers such as GloRilla, Gucci Mane, Outkast, Eminem and Latto to name a few, in her solo endeavors.

Recruited by DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, Gangsta Boo joined the group in 1995 and was featured on their debut studio album release Mystic Stylez. She would go on to recordan additional five more albums with the group before departing in 2001 to focus on her ambitions as a solo artist.

Gangsta Boo released three solo studio albums and a host of mixtapes in her solo career, including the hit “Where Dem Dollas At!?” which was a part of her commercially successful debut album, Enquiring Minds.

Enquiring Minds was released in 1996 and ascended to #15 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 2013, Gangsta Boo would also link up with the Three 6 Mafia spin-off group called Da Mafia 6ix, before she left the group in 2014.
