2004 | A Beverly Hills tribute concert was held in honor of Ray Charles. The star-studded extravaganza featured Stevie Wonder, Michael McDonald, Patti Austin and James Ingram to name a few. The event raised a whopping $15 million for Atlanta’s HBCU, Morehouse College. |
1997 | The DVD-Audio format was formally introduced at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) conference. |
1991 | Garth Brooks’ Ropin’ the Wind became the first country music album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. |
1972 | David Bowie sold out a show to take place in New York City’s legendary venue, Carnegie Hall. The clamor to see Bowie perform live was driven by the publicity and ensuing excitement behind his Ziggy Stardust persona. |
1972 | The Temptations released “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone.” The single was cut down to 6:58 since there was not enough vinyl on a 45 record to accommodate the 11:46 full-length album version. |
1967 | Gladys Knight and the Pips released “I Heard It Through The Grapevine.” |
1968 | The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” (backed with “Revolution”) hit #1 in the United States. The song held the top spot for nine weeks which holds the mark of the longest of any Beatles single. |
