Matt Malone is a country music recording artist, musician, and singer-songwriter out of Santa Fe, New Mexico, who first splashed on the scene in 2020 with his debut album Handle. Matt’s debut project is an 8-track collection of songs that highlight Matt’s entreating brand of music that consists of a sensational blend of the country, alternative rock, and folk genres, with even some elements of pop existing within the wide-ranging sound that he has crafted.
Matt’s diverse array of musical influences such as Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Tyler Childers, and Frank Sinatra, to name a few, fittingly reflect the multifarious style and artistry he has cultivated. Matt has further impressed with his “no frills” approach to his recordings which bear a wholesome, natural acoustic feel, minimalist to the core, primarily driven by a lead acoustic guitar rhythm and a backing percussion section. It all makes for a warm, engaging listening experience accentuated by Matt’s plushly textured vocals.
This is the essence of the sound that Matt has brought to his latest work, a sophomore album project titled “The Frontlines,” which was released in May. “The Frontlines” is composed of seven songs boasting a profound lyricism that touches on concepts of moving on, advancing into new stages in life and the roller coaster of emotions that ensue as one absorbs the changes around them. “The Frontlines” is a remarkable work of introspection and self-reflection as it delves into the heart of how people tend to internalize different phases of their life.
As mentioned above, the musicality of “The Frontlines” project masterfully meshes country, rock, and folk with an enthralling assortment of wondrous acoustic guitar phrases, musically telling a story in conjunction with Matt’s all-embracing vocal delivery. Each strum and pluck resonates ever so pleasantly with your listening senses. The album maintains a mellow demeanor for the most part, channeling that down-home mystique; however, “Wait Forever” is a slight departure with its more upbeat, pop-infused soundscape.
To me, the title song of the album most reflects the unique sound that Matt has developed, reminding me of the classic rock/folk band America while “Five String” also brings a raw, gritty authenticity to the project that is evident throughout. Earthy-toned songs such as “Silver Hills” and “Never Going Back” add to the unpretentious draw of this album. Music listeners tend to gravitate more to an artist or song that they believe is genuine and create songs from the heart…nothing contrived or embellished. That’s what Matt Malone brings to the table with “The Frontlines”.

Matt Malone is based out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who often plays live around the area. He started his musical journey at the tender age of 4 as a classically trained pianist. He transitioned to guitar around the age of 13 and started playing in alt-country and rock bands in Washington DC. By his 20s, he is already on the road playing solo singer-songwriter shows throughout the US
