1995 | Michael Jackson’s ninth studio album, HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I, was released and in a gesture to commemorate the release, MTV became “MJTV” for a week to celebrate. |
1988 | Bobby Brown’s breakthrough album Don’t Be Cruel was released via MCA Records. The album was a huge success, spending six weeks atop the Billboard 200 albums chart and earned the spot as best-selling album of 1989 in the U.S. |
1960 | John Taylor, bassist and co-founder of legendary pop/rock group Duran Duran, was born Nigel John Taylor in Solihull, Warwickshire, England. Taylor would also achieve success in the rock supergroup The Power Station. |
1949 | Lionel Richie was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. Richie was a member of the Commodores before skyrocketing to fame as a solo artist in the 80’s. |
