A fresh face on the music scene with a refreshingly distinct sound and vocal delivery. That’s what you get when you hear Smokee Whine, a multidimensional singer, rapper, musician and filmmaker born in Louisiana and now based in Houston. The versatile recording artist has crafted a burgeoning sound which he calls Southern Soul Rap.
The innovative sound can be best described as an intriguing fusion of the stylings of contemporary southern rap with vintage soul and R&B elements. You can’t help but gravitate to it as a listener and that brings us to today’s spotlight track called “I Want You”, an alluring song off of Smokee’s 7-track album release of the same title.
“I Want You” is a tremendous song overall from a musical and performance perspective. The title speaks for itself in terms of understanding the concept. There’s no mistaking it as Smokee seductively speaks to the woman of his desire throughout the track expressing that exact sentiment.

The tone is a brilliant fusion that flows naturally and doesn’t sound contrived.
This one-of-a-kind sound is enhanced by an equally unique and creative vocal performance by Smokee. He delivers a flow that puts you in the mind of a rhythmic conversation of sorts. His flow distinguishes itself with an appealing combination of rapping and singing with moments of syncopation that shine through on the track. It’s a vocal delivery reminiscent of Ohio Players or Parliament yet can stand alone for its unique characteristics.
Smokee displays his skill set and musicianship immensely on “I Want You”. It has a clear cut vintage aura but layered with just the right amount of modern swing to give it a vibe that will appeal to the masses of music listeners internationally.
