As we know it, the music industry is still male-dominant when it comes to holding leadership. However, that does not mean the chances and opportunities are limited to these powerful women.

1. Marlene Tsuchii

Tsuchii’s agency career began when she worked for Reebok during the summer and sponsoring the Amnesty International tour. There she linked up with William Morris, who made her agent for a company.

As CAA’s co-head of international touring for over 20 years, Tsuchii is known for her successful bookings for Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and many more beloved artists.

She has also held events like Damon Albarn’s virtual band, Gorillaz, for their Demon Dayz festival in 2017.

2. Julissa “Trophy” Bartholomew

She is known as a senior director in A&R for the company Interscope Records. Her career started with her pursuit of becoming a media journalist.

Her peak of exposer is when she recorded the rapper Fabolous, at the Powerhouse 2013, the annual hip-hop concert responding to Kendric Lamar’s lyrics from his song Control.

In her career, she joins groups and attend panels to talent scouting and supervise music development for recording artists.

3. Ty Stiklorius

Ty’s career began and is known as the manager for John Legend in 2006, forming JL Ventures (JLV). She has also been the manager for Ciara and Lindsey Stirling.

Her position as the CEO of her company, Friends at Work, continues to create massive marketing and social activism success.

From an interview, she mentions that her goal is to use help artist who uses their platform for a good reason rather than “another pop hit”.

4. Spring Aspers

Spring is widely known for her versatile involvement in music-related sects for film productions. She is also in charge of supervising music group labels and recruiting artists to take part in soundtracks.

Her career started as an independent music supervisor. At that time, Spring created Island Def Jam Records’ soundtrack department. She also produced soundtracks for films like 2 Fast 2 Furious, Jackass, and Spider-Man with notable stars like Kanye West and Justin Bieber.

As the president of the music department in Sony Pictures Entertainment, Spring is also responsible for recruiting more big names in the music industry. That is, for the award-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018).

5. Cara Lewis

Former CAA’s “hip-hop agent” Cara Lewis helped oversee famous rappers such as Pitbull, Eminem, Chance the Rapper, and Bryson Tiller.

In the beginning, Lewis was a receptionist at Norby Walters’ booking agency in Manhattan. Through her hard work, she became promoted to an agent.

As she worked her way up through the industry, people saw her as “cut-throat” or one of the “most feared people in music.”

Her aggressive structure in managing rappers brought financial success from shows and events such as Chance’s 30-plus-date Magnificent Coloring World Tour and 70 shows for Travis Scott.

Due to her success, Lewis begins her own company Cara Lewis Group. In her agency, Lewis has made an international booking for more than 800 shows.

6. Deb Antney

Deb Antney is an entertainment manager and the founder and CEO of Mizay Entertainment.

Her career began when she used to work for the Georgia Department of Family and Children’s Services by monitoring community activities.

Due to her strong background in business, Antney developed her own management company Mizay Entertainment.

She has encounter well-known rappers and even scouted for upcoming rappers and promoted their names, such as Nicki Minaj, French Montana, and her son, Waka Flocka Flame.

In 2013, Antney launch Be100 Radio World hit radio for independent artists to get exposure from 100,000 listeners daily, nationally and internationally.
