itsENJ Turn a Period of Personal Turmoil into A Musical Triumph
Everybody loves a happy ending, they say.
Bronx-based, Nigerian Afropop/Afro-soul duo, itsENJ (a.k.a. The Dapper Duo) present a visible example of this in the music video for their single “Moonside”.
The eye-catching video was inspired by the duo’s recent experiences of being stuck in Nigeria for five months because of travel restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Dapper Duo have expressed that they encountered many near-death experiences during their five months in Nigeria, the largest country in West Africa.
They revealed that their hairstyles and computers aroused suspicions with officials and law enforcement. “The Nigerian police will brand you as a scammer just to harass you and try to extort you”, they explained.
“Moonside” is a vibrant and upbeat track powered by an irresistible rhythm. The Dapper Duo matches that energy as they shower the beat with their indelible vocals.
The music video captures the essence of the song as we’re treated to fast-moving shots of the duo either delivering their lyrics boldly and dancing to the grooves or intently reflecting on the current state of affairs.
These colorful visuals of The Dapper Duo are brilliantly interspersed with powerful images from Nigeria. The imagery displayed ranges from day-to-day life in the country to footage of protests and demonstrations.
