Many of us are familiar with the term “Stop and smell the roses”… a figurative saying that suggest one take a moment from the day-to-day hustle and bustle to enjoy the beauty of life. Nashville-based country singer-songwriter John Eason touches on this theme ever so poignantly with his latest release titled “Be Amazed”, another installment in Eason’s ample catalog of music that displays his distinct style of country music and gritty vocal tone.

Once again, Eason creatively infuses elements of southern rock, blues and outlaw country into his latest effort which was also presented masterfully on his single release earlier this year, “Last Damn That I Gave”, for which the official music video was revealed about two weeks ago by the way. You can watch the visuals here, but let’s get back to today’s spotlight track in the meantime.

“Be Amazed” actually developed out of a recording session which took place in March 2021, in which Eason collaborated with a pair of co-writers, Hal O’Dell, and Zach Henard to pen the track while Joel Jorgensen handled the production. Eason shares that, “Hal likes to say they “accidentally” wrote a an upbeat positive message song. Be Amazed is all about living in the moment and not getting caught up in the chaos of the day-to-day“.

As you immerse yourself in “Be Amazed”, you will quickly take notice of how masterfully the concept is conveyed in the lyricism. It is a song and composition that can take on a variety of emotional effects in that it can inspire someone who may be enduring some difficult personal circumstances and perhaps help them to see the brighter side of things.

“Be Amazed” also an enlightening track in that it can knock a a dose of reality into someone who may be wallowing in self-pity. The song urges us to take in the simple things in life and appreciate them despite life’s challenges but I also view it as a song of progress and advancement.

In a song so spectacularly written, it can be difficult sometimes to pinpoint a particular line, but the following line really captured the essence of the song’s theme to me…

You Can’t Catch Tomorrow
Dragging Around Yesterday

Eason’s signature vocal delivery has an edgy appeal to it that commands your listening attention while still presenting a welcoming tone that ropes you into the song’s message and inviting instrumentation. I also enjoyed Eason’s adept vocal performance, not only from an emotive standpoint and the way he channeled the sentiment of the song, but also his vocal syncopation in sections of the verses added a dramatic “must-listen” flair to the song overall.

John Eason Bio

John is a small-town Father, Veteran, and Gypsy brought up on gospel and country music. He was born in the small town of Minden, Louisiana, and grew up in Cotton Valley, raised on good manners, good food, and good music.

He took some detours on his way to becoming a musician and pursued another passion of his as a chef. He attended culinary school and worked in the food industry which led him to create his own BBQ sauce, Renegade BBQ, and open his own bakery.

After losing the bakery in hurricane Katrina, John spent 8 years in the Air Force, where he did 5 overseas deployments. As a result, he suffers from PTSD, which he draws inspiration from in his original music. One of his first releases, “Gun From My Hands,” is about the invisible scars he carries from it. He hopes to use his platform to raise awareness for PTSD and help others who suffer from it as well.

When he decided it was time to move to Nashville and pursue his music career, he sold everything he owned and packed what was left in a $750 pickup truck and hasn’t looked back since.

He pours out music from his soul in hopes it connects with the people who need it. Some folks call his music Country, some call it Outlaw Country, and some call it Southern Rock. He calls it real and that’s the kind of music he wants to make!

Lyrics for “Be Amazed”

Life Keeps Knocking Me Down
Troubles Keep Piling Up
Can’t See Past Right Now
All Grown Up With Eyes Wide Shut

Get So Caught Up In The Day-To-Day
Just Forget To Be Amazed
At The Sight Of Snow or The Smell Of Rain
The Way The Sun Comes Out Again
That First Kiss, That First Date
That First Road Trip As You Drive Away
Don’t Let The Magic Fade Away
Let Yourself Be Amazed

I’m Gonna Slow Me Down
Watch That Full Moon Rise
Feel This Holy Ground
See The World Through Younger Eyes

I Get So Caught Up In The Day-To-Day
I Just Forget To Be Amazed
At The Sight Of Snow or The Smell Of Rain
The Way The Sun Comes Out Again
That First Kiss, That First Date
That First Road Trip As You Drive Away
Don’t Let The Magic Fade Away
Let Yourself Be Amazed

You Can’t Catch Tomorrow
Dragging Around Yesterday
There’s Magic Right Now
And I Ain’t Gonna Wait

So Caught Up In The Day-To-Day
Just Forget To Be Amazed
At The Sight Of Snow or The Smell Of Rain
The Way The Sun Comes Out Again
That First Kiss, That First Date
That First Road Trip As You Drive Away
Don’t Let The Magic Fade Away
Don’t Let The Magic Fade Away
Let Yourself Be Amazed
