JD Lion has cultivated a flourishing career in music which has seen the decorated session drummer tour extensively over the country with a variety of rock, country and Americana acts for over two decades. Over the course of that time, JD has received a multitude of accolades and endorsements from music industry peers and influential companies alike.
Remarkably, JD Lion’s niche as a solo recording artist veers on a path far from his spectacular work as a drummer. His production style and solo recordings cover a wide range of the numerous sub genres that make up the electronic music space. Furthermore, JD Lion has not shied away from pushing the envelope musically with his releases, which has been evident from the beginning with his seminal album release Born Out of the Desert in 2020.
Following up a prolific 2022, in which he released two EPs Evolve or Die and Runways, JD Lion continues on his bold solo music journey with a new roof-raising dance infused single titled “Lightning The Queen” featuring Animalweapon.
Explaining the genesis of the new single, JD shares, “I’m super into French House like Justice, Daft Punk, etc, and so I wanted to come out with something upbeat for the clubs in 2023. I worked wth my good friend Animalweapon and this is his first feature. AW has a nice following in the Ambient world and did the music for The Undisclosed Podcast featuring Rabia Chaudry. This was a departure for him and signals a new shift musically for me to more House/Dance music“.
When you hear the track, you instantly notice the prominent disco laced, house music vibe. It creates an undeniable groove and swing that easily puts “Lightning The Queen” in a strong position to be a favorite among club or lounge DJs that need to set a tone for the evening.
“Lightning The Queen” also distinguishes itself with the rich mashup of sounds that it boasts throughout the song. The sound design is impeccable as it harnesses a plethora of ethereal, abstract elements combined with an acoustic instrumentation that forms a uniquely potent production.
Even in the midst of the sections that are dominated by more electronic components, the acoustic, warm undertones of “Lightning The Queen” still maintain themselves. It’s an incredible blend of the two contrasting sonics and another vital factor I believe that truly drives the appeal of the track.
On another note, I’m also blown away by the arrangement which is driven by a masterful incorporation of pitch bended and oscillated sounds, awesome utilization of a vocoder and rapidly shifting panning effects. It’s extremely cinematic and presents the illusion of a story being told.
I can envision this song emanating from the larger than life speakers at an EDM festival and setting a big tyme mystique over the throngs of attendees. Throw in the clever placement of the quintessential buildups, risers and drops and “Lightning The Queen” is the type of track that garners immediate notice and compels you to stream it for multiple repeats.

A professional drummer hailing based in Austin, TX, he has been a versatile session drummer of over 20 years.He has played with many Americana, Rock, and Country artists over the years, and has racked up many endorsements in the drumming community and various brands. His endorsements and brand partnerships include, Los Cabos Drumsticks, Vertical Drum Co, Same Here Global, MusicDoingGood, and others.
As a drummer, through various acts, he’s amassed a very long touring history that spans over 20 years. Devadanam has completed many national tours, has a long history of touring across multiple regions, and has earned the respect of his colleagues. He is no stranger to the media as he has appeared in many interviews, podcasts, featured in Drum Magazine, and was even an extra in a movie!
I’ve released several EP’s, singles, and a full length record. Currently touring in the US and expanding internationally.
