Channeling a retro 90’s hip-hop rap style and nostalgic boom-bap beat, New York-based recording artist Akif Daboor hits the mark on the sound that etched the Big Apple as the driving force in the hip-hop game during that era with his new track titled “Ancient Alibi.”
The sound is an ode to classic hip-hop and will percolate the listening senses of those who appreciate the vibes and what many terms as the “real hip-hop.” It should come as no surprise how Akif attacks the mic with an indelible, raw zeal as his influences include such hip-hop icons as 2Pac, Big L, Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., and Kanye West.
It’s extremely fitting that “Ancient Alibi” takes on a style that mirrors the past as the song’s concept personally touches on Akif, his ancestors, and how blessed they are. The emerging artist shares the significance behind the track’s title as he explains, “the word “Ancient” comes from my ancient Egyptian soul, and this life I live would be my “Alibi.”
Akif flows across the instrumental in an illuminating rhythmic fashion, injecting a dose of melody across his bars, particularly in the sticky hook lines, that exudes an appealing aura of positivity and aural energy. His vocals rolled off perfectly to the backdrop of a catchy looped piano riff and stuttered drum track that boasts a heavy low-end kick and clap-covered snare.
”Ancient Alibi” is a track that stands out from production and vocal perspective, containing sonics that is bound to raise your spirits, and I appreciate how the lyrical content diverges from the conventional subject matters that dominate the majority of today’s hip-hop releases. Akif appears to embrace his individuality and uniqueness as an artist, and it’s tremendously refreshing to hear. We’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds for the emerging NYC artist.
