Isaiah Mclaughlin Astounds on Stellar New Album Project “Paradise”

Isaiah Mclaughlin is an ascending singer, songwriter and producer who stands out from the pack as an extraordinarily compelling enigma, particularly, with his unabashed knack for pushing the envelope musically. The dynamic recording artist has manifested his many musical talents, which include being a studio engineer, and has molded a style which can best be categorized as dark pop, however, when you listen to the diverse sonics of Isaiah’s individual recordings, you’re exposed to an extensive variety of music genres infused into his sound.
Isaiah masterfully incorporates elements of EDM, trap, drum and bass, goth and industrial into his melting pot of productions that also feature components of the various sub-genres of pop music. His songs specialize in unconventional soundscapes, provocative lyrical content and an equally inimitable vocal delivery and presentation that is uniquely Isaiah…these characteristics have been highlighted on his previous EP projects such as Storm, Narcissist and Slave.
Continuing the momentum from a prolific 2021 in which Isaiah released the three EP’s referenced above, he dives headfirst into 2022 with a new landmark album project titled ‘Paradise”, which dropped January 26. The “Paradise” album is an intriguing amalgamation of 13 songs that each possess their own character and story, while forming into a cohesive collection of music that is resounding in all aspects of the music spectrum.
The production carries the dark mystique that have come to characterize Isaiah’s music, however, as noted above, he adeptly integrates such an enormous number of additional components that the sound develops into an otherworldly listening experience, transcendental in a sense with the infusion of ethereal sound effects, magnanimous synths and electronic elements with an injection of haunting vocal interpolations and background harmonies. From track to track, you never quite know what to expect…it keeps you on your toes in anticipation of what’s coming next.
For example, the opening track “Jungle Beat” boasts a heavy leaning towards the EDM, trap and bass space while it is followed by “It’s on Them” which puts me in a nostalgic mindset as the undertones of 80’s pop run through the course of the song with its melodic synth-laden instrumentation. “Try to Break Me” distinguishes itself with a potent punch as it enters with a thrashing rock/punk vibe that’s purely kinetic. The aural energy is off the charts.
Then there are tracks like “Horizon”, “Red Rover” and “Truth” which I find to be the songs on the album that most closely resemble quintessential pop in their tones and ambience while the gritty electric industrial, goth-like production on “Lucifer” and “Alice” carry a raw appeal that’s undeniable. The songs resonate with veritable aplomb.
Another standout on the “Paradise” album is a song and composition titled “As a Parent” which carries an extremely powerful messaging and sheds light on a sensitive topic that is often swept under the rug in many instances. Isaiah describes what sparked his creatitivy and drive to pen such a bold song…. .
I was inspired from Michael Jackson’s song “Do You Know Where Your Children Are?”. So many children have abusive parents and I wanted to bring attention to this topic. This track was produced in 2021 and the vocals were recorded in Nov. of 2021. Production was finished in December of 2021. I have many influences but my main influences like always are Michael Jackson and Prince. When it comes to production, I am inspired from cinematic and industrial sounds and pairing that with modern production.

The lyrics are gripping as well as the electropop foused sound fields on “As a Parent”. Kudos to Isaiah for calling attention to the matter and delivering a vocal performance that reverberates with such an appealing authenticity and emotion, speaking of which, is another hallmark of Isaiah’s style. His vocal dynamism is on full display throughout the album. While the spectacular sound design plays a part in accentuating his vocals, the tone, timbre and inflections that Isaiah employs in his singing style is a one-of-a-kind presentation. The way he seamlessly alters his pitch or fluidly travels up and down the course of his vocal range is a key ingedient in driving the clout that these songs possess.
