Buddhakai and Gallo Locknez Channel the Essence of Hip-Hop with Positivity on New Collab Album, “Take Off”

The beats boom with an indelible presence and the lyricism takes centerstage on the sizzling new collaboration album by seasoned rap pros Buddhakai and Gallo Locknez (Gallo) titled “Take Off” via Ready Now Records; and take off is an extremely fitting title for this project as the immensely talented pair of artists lyrically blast off with the launch of this 9-track project.
Here’s a brief background of the two rap veterans before we get into the crux of what makes “Take Off” one of those classic timepieces that you can bump from first to the last track…possibly only interrupting the flow just to put one of the tracks on repeat.
Buddhakai has been carving a distinct niche on the hip-hop scene since the early 2000s, notably earning him a spot on the D&D Project II compilation album of various artists with his track “When It Comes to a War“. The album also featured a long list of hip-hop luminaries including Big Daddy Kane, Guru, Buckshot, DJ Premier, Craig G and RA the Rugged Man. The Denver based rapper with his strong ties to New Jersey has built a formidable catalog and extensive performance history over the years.
Bronx, NY-born Gallo is a recording artist and producer who has earned his stripes in the hip-hop game as the voice behind the NBA Sound Up tracks as well as the Canelo vs. GGG 2 Rematch. Gallo’s productions have received placements on a host of high-profile television shows, networks and movies and commercials; domestically and across the globe, including such premium outlets as ESPN, Netflix, Love and Hip Hop and Black Ink.
Now here we stand in 2022, the result of a yearlong meeting of the minds of Buddhakai and Gallo has culminated in the release of the masterstroke “Take Off” album, each track featuring the indomitable rap flows of the pair and the head-nodding, commanding beats laid down by Gallo on the production end. The duo created the project seeking to create an “all positive” hip hop album which is “sure to lift your energy and frequency”.
“Take Off” is an album that hip-hop heads will take to with a fervor as it possesses the core hip-hop sound in the instrumentation as well as the crisp, precise rap flows delivered by Buddhakai and Gallo respectively…. it’s a wordplay bonanza where you get your fill of clever metaphors, poignant lyrics, a commanding dose of bravado and countless bars that rope you into the majestic art of emceeing.
The positive lyrical content contained throughout “Take Off” is effervescent and distinguishes itself overtly in a period where it appears that the commercial success of a rap record is judged based on its level of profanity, destructive behavior or violence. The concepts on “Take Off” tackle a number of compelling subjects…but all tie into a theme of upliftment.
Standout tracks such as “Can’t Quit Right Now“, “Emphasize” and “Overcomer” weigh in on perseverance and determination, hanging in there with fortitude through the challenges of life; strive to progress and achieve. Then there’s the banger “No Brakes” which touches on a similar theme, however, contains satirical knocks against some typical stereotypes concerning an artist’s age and positive content won’t sell etc.

The boom bap laden track “Sensei” is an extremely provocative song, thought provoking as its messaging focuses on blocking out all the circulating external factors that create a cloud of negativity. Take a deep look into yourself and you’ll grasp the how to get to the path to progress. Yes indeed, truth be told and hey, the track “Boom” speaks for itself with a one-of-a-kind flow and tone that boom the soundscape and sonics of the track.

Gallo also has produced for many tv shows such as Love and Hip Hop, Black Ink and many more. Also has produced for ESPN, NFL, Netflix many other movies, shows and commercials nationally and internationally. He has performed in many venues, schools and events all across the East Coast.
Buddhakai Bio
Buddhakai is a truly dynamic rapper based in Denver, with personal and sonic roots firmly planted in New Jersey. The Wu-Tang comparison is easy to draw given his incredibly forceful delivery over boom bap, and penchant for using vocal inflection and cadence switch-ups to sound like multiple characters. But Buddhakai’s content sets him apart. He’s a proud and sober man of God, and while for most artists that means one-dimensional storytelling, for Buddhakai it means the opposite. His positive present is starkly contrasted by his drug-fueled tumultuous past, and he pours both lives into his music. As an emcee he understands and speaks to such a range of experiences that he unifies otherwise estranged audiences.
Years of dominating stages in New Jersey with his guttural delivery and razor-sharp timing earned Buddhakai a spot-on D&D Project II in the early 2000s, sharing the album with the likes of Big Daddy Kane, RA The Rugged Man, The Alchemist, DJ Premier, and more. His 2013 release, Clock Strikes 13 expanded on the creativity that gained him recognition, using catchy hooks to compliment detailed and metaphoric storytelling. Since his return to music in 2017, Buddhakai has focused on forging inspirational, life-changing lyrics on top an array of diverse instrumentals and hooks, giving birth to the hard-hitting, positive Hip Hop album, “Timeless.”
