The Cingularity is a rapper and recording artist that carries a resoundingly unique sound to the hip-hop game…a sound that he has exhibited boldly on boommode tracks in his catalog like “Said Sum”, “Impossible Burger” and “Jook Forever”. Possessing a distinct tone and vocal delivery which encompasses a versatile cadence, The Cingularity is rapidly emerging as an artist who embraces his individuality and an artistry that is sparked by creating music outside of the box.
In his latest project, The Cingularity pushes the proverbial envelope as he delves into the provocative social matter of race and prejudice with a profound single titled “Who Can I Run To?”. This is a track that was inspired by the highly publicized murders of Black figures such as Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and Daunte Wright to name a few, whose slayings were inexplicable and widely believed to have been caused because of their skin color. The symbolism of the song’s title infers that in such times of adversity and injustice compelled by the color of your skin, there’s nowhere to run to or seek relief but within yourself.

“Who Can I Run To?” is an intriguing track as The Cingularity poses these candid and challenging questions throughout the song, pushing forth a lyrical gem that not only tackles the heart of discrimination, but also renders a suggested solution; a mindset that Blacks should maintain in order to progress past such circumstances individually and as a people. The Cingularity displays his strong skillset as a songwriter and showmanship equally as he is able to deliver a track with such a masterful contrast of addressing a sensitive topic lyrically while also presenting an awesome listening experience musically.
His vocal performance is dynamic to say the least, rife with perfectly placed inflections and is emotive in line with whatever the lyrical content suggests. I was also blown away as he does a surprising shift into an all-out croon for the hook, bellowing in a charismatic fashion like a vintage big band or soul singer; the authenticity in his voice pours out prodigiously as he melodiously carries out the chorus.
The song overall has a classic hip-hop feel and boasts the cutting edge sonics that define the genre with a hard-nosed bass drum which pounds the soundscape, smoothed out with a funky guitar riff and assortment of mellifluous instrumentation, plus an ominous chorus progression that sets a melodramatic stage of sorts. There’s also a keyboard phrase in particular which is extremely catchy and drives the flow of the lead verse sections.
