Love and hate are a dichotomy that has been philosophized and written on throughout the course of time, and idiosyncratic recording artist Omyügen provides his own unique and distinct perspective on the two opposing emotions in his latest single, “i love 2 hate u”. The track is a salient composition and song containing an intense lyricism that is not only mentally stirring but it is also delivered vocally in an equally gripping fashion by Omyügen.

The dynamic singer, songwriter and producer describes “i love 2 hate u” as “a melancholic anthem of a tired soul whose life is consumed by the love, and its burden and his life standstill. The video of the song is also very symbolic, where the artist is seen standing still, as his life froze and he gives up, consumed with love and hate“.

The soundscape of the track captures you right away from the opening note as the intro engrosses you with its assortment of abstract electronic instrumentation which forms itself into quite a compelling chord progression of sorts. The infusion of haunting chant-like vocal interpolations further add to the mysterious, yet stark mystique of the song as a downcast drum track provides the backbone of the sonic presentation. Kudos on the sound design!

Omyügen does a brilliant job with his vocal performance in meeting and matching the crestfallen tone of the music perfectly with a distinct delivery that is melancholic at its core, however, it is clear to hear the conflict between the warring emotions of love and hate that he is trying to convey. As you absorb the vivid lyrics, your imagination is activated with all types of mental imagery. It’s also quite fascinating how when watching the music video, the concept illustrated by Omyügen is actually some of what comes to your mind as you listen to “i love 2 hate u”

Love you
I love to hate you
But I
Want you
To take my soul away
You hate
When I come around, but
You love to take my life away

How Did “i love 2 hate u” come about?

I initially asked Landon Bosch to send me the background hums in his song “lost” and I slowed it down. Then I started playing the keyboard over it until I found a nice melody. After that I got on the mic and was kinda messing around with different flows and I found the one I liked and made the hook and verse. After, I thought the song needed some intensity in it, so I decided to add a drop. I produced the beat, recorded my vocals, and recorded to music video for it all by myself.
