  • Hi Yusef, Welcome to StreamLINE! Welcome to StreamLINE! Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. We’re excited for our audience to learn more about your background and music career. Thanks again. We appreciate it!
  • Please tell us a bit about your background, where you’re from etc.  What were your early music influences?

I’m originally from Cali, but moved to Georgia for a fresh start. One of my early influencers was my aunt’s boyfriend who used to play in a band when I was a baby,  50 Cent, Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie, DY Quik, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and many more.

  • What was the defining moment or time in your life when you decided to pursue music on a professional level?

When I was in teen years, I always had a passion for music. I decided to pursue it based on my love for music, and drive. I wanted to hear music that I can relate to. I count really relate, based on the lyrics.

  • How would you characterize your sound and what inspires your productions?

My sound is epic, with a unique style.  I’m making art and creating originality with my music. I mix outside the box and master with hardware, and software. My inspiration comes from my passion for music, being able to provide for my family and bringing in clients to showcase my skills.

  • Please tell us the story behind your latest single “Ply This”. How did the idea behind the song originate? What was the recording process like?.

It’s a real laid back song discussing positivity; majority of the songs that come out are all negative. Bring back positivity to the world, Positivity can change lives and help the world.

The recording process was very smooth. I was up late at night going through some beats, the beat popped up. I had inspiration to want to finish the beat, once listening to it. I started hearing the chorus pop up in my head so I plugged up my mic and started recording and I eventually finished the song.

At this point I listened to it over and over, then walked away. The song wasn’t fully finished so went to add more to the song, and “Ply This” was born.

I have my own vocal booth. I finished the production. I wanted to experience the music, not just listen to it. I know that they say you shouldn’t mix and master on your own, but I chose to do my music that way.

  • You refer to an episode of Counterpart on the Starz Network on your website and social media. Did you appear in the show or did one of your tracks place?  Either way, what was the experience like?

Yes, one of my tracks placed, “Running You Home” in Episode1 of Season 5. It was a great feeling to have hearing one of my songs being placed on a TV show, and the goal is to get more of my songs placed.

  • What’s the best advice you’ve been given; either personally or professionally?

To start a LLC and music publishing company, I was told you are the author of your own destiny.

  • As a studio engineer, what are some of your favorite/can’t do without plugins or gear?

Definitely my analogue summoning, hardware, Dbox, Tonelux, EQ processors, Logic Pro X. I’m used to any DAW but I prefer to mix and master in Logic, often using the iOS.

  • What activities do you enjoy outside of your music endeavors?

Activities I enjoy…is my art. I started drawing early on when I was younger, later on creating party flyers, album covers, and brochures, but mine had to look like it was in a art gallery.  I approach photography the same way. Filming, being out in nature and enjoying the scenery, are other things I enjoy.

  • What’s next up musically for you as 2022 approaches and beyond? Any projects, features or live shows on the horizon?

Planning on getting more features, interviews, and placements, also working on some other projects as well.
