  • AYO^ x Beanie Beltran – Stacking Chips
  • “Stacking Chips” is a pure boommode track and not just because of the boomin’ kick drum pounding throughout. The production is creative and pushes the sonic envelope.

The instrumentation stands out with sounds similar to a harp or flamenco guitar melodically layering the bumpin’ trap drums.

The tone immediately draws you in as a listener. Kudos as well on the outstanding arrangement on the track. All the transitions and drops flow seamlessly to where you never lose the rhythm or pace. Just seems to fit right, particularly in the ending [no spoiler alert :)]

Lastly, AYO and Beanie Beltran slay “Stacking Chips” with their singing and rapping respectively. The pair turned in a couple of dazzling vocal performances. They were commanding, confident and delivered with intent.

  • Black Apathy – “Rapping Trapper”
  • Black Apathy completely blazed this track titled “Rapping Trapper”.

His pen game is out of this world as the lyricism flies off the charts. I loved the metaphors, rapid fire wordplay and clever punchlines….outstanding performance.

Black Apathy’s style definitely distinguishes itself as it captures the hip-hop element of true lyricism which is not evident in many rap commercial releases today.

Overall, “Rapping Trapper” is a tremendous song and I must also heap a ton of praise on the post-production.

The track carries a distinct tone and sound driven by elements of brass instruments over a resounding bass drum and 808.

This song is about the complexities I used to experience trapping to give anyone a realistic perspective about the life and to also make the decision not to be involved. I use mainstream tactics and skills to illustrate important topics to educate. I use said tactics so my music can blend into the mainstream culture and be consumed by anyone without losing appeal. Listen all the way through to the end.

  • GVO – “Complimentary”
  • Good Vibes Only (GVO) is a hip-hop collective based out of South-East Michigan founded by Marty Gray and David Bashaw.

I really enjoyed listening to their recent release Complimentary”. The incredible vocal flow and lyricism displayed throughout the song set the tone for the entirety of the track.

The lyrical content consists of an excellent and creative display of wordplay. It’s an informal tutorial on how to utilize punchlines and metaphors to make your track pop!

The vocal delivery attacks the track with a bold demeanor and flows seamlessly over the beat.

There are many memorable lines throughout the track, but the one that really sticks out to me is Mumble rappers hate me, yeah this flow is so belligerent. Loyal to my brothers. I ain’t never actin different.”

“Complimentary” is a breath of fresh air as it’s driven by its core lyricism.

GVO fosters a community in which artists are able to express themselves freely, encouraging them to grow both individually and alongside fellow artists.

  • Jamar Carr x D. Thompson – “Bad Thing”
  • Jamar Carr is an emerging recording artist and rapper from Queens, New York.  I had the pleasure of listening to his recent release titled “Bad Thing” featuring D. Thompson and my immediate first impression was it’s a “certified banger”.

The instrumental and production soars to another level with a hard knock kick drum, striking claps and soulful piano chords.

It sets a cutting edge vibe to the track right out the gate. Jamar’s vocal flow steps up to the challenge and matches the energy of the uptempo beat seamlessly as he rides the track with a commanding, melodic presence.

The singing component is a great addition to the track for its on-point harmonics and it demonstrates a good ear for how to arrange a track dynamically.

  • MrZnote – “I Don’t Care”
  • Have you ever found your ears glued to every word in a track because you’re anxious to see what lyrical path a rapper is going to take you down?

That was my experience listening to Mrznote’s “I Don’t Care”, a track with resounding boommode vibes.

Mrznote carries the track with an impeccable, charismatic flow. His lyricism is top notch, flow on point and delivered with an impressive intent, that’s blunt and “in-your-face”.

“I Don’t Care” is very well-produced also. The lead violin-sounding melody is a driving component that makes the track stand out sonically.

The choice of instrumentation gives the beat an undertone of acoustic elements over the thumping kick drum and claps.

Make sure to check out the interesting visuals as well via the YouTube link below. There’s some surprises in store lol. “I Don’t Care” is the complete package! Enjoy!

  • Paradox & DJ Sean P – “Back At It” (feat. Wordsworth)
  • Boom! Bap! Boom! Bap! Yes indeed, my music senses and mindset was taken back on a golden age hip-hop journey after listening to “Back at It’.

Paradox and Wordsworth, of Lyricists Lounge fame, delivered flawless bar after bar and absolutely torched this boom bap inspired track laid down by DJ Sean P.

The lead melody contains an infectious jazz infused piano that projects and undeniable swag and bounce. Imagine a cipher taking place in a smoky jazz lounge.

“Back at It” definitely harkens back to that “authentic” hip-hop sound and texture on the instrumental but more importantly, Paradox and Wordsworth capture that authenticity with dazzling vocal performances

Their adept lyricism and astute wordplay goes above and beyond on this track and captures that “classic hip-hop” vibe perfectly.
