“Lady Marmalade,” a #1 US hit for Labelle in 1975, returned to the top spot with a cover featured in the movie Moulin Rouge. This version was produced by Missy Elliott and featured Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya and Lil’ Kim.

Whitney Houston’s second album, Whitney, was released. It contained four #1 hits, including the vibrant pop track “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”.
