🎙️🎙️🎙️ON THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY, AUGUST 12 : ⁠⁠ ⁠

🔷 1997 : The Backstreet Boys issued their self-titled debut album in the U.S. where it went on to sell over 14 million copies. The album had been released to international markets a year earlier.⁠


🔷 1984 : Lionel Richie performed his smash hit “All Night Long” with special lyrics written for the occasion, at the closing ceremony of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. One of his backing dancers was a young Cuba Gooding Jr.⁠


🔷 1978 : After years of touring and substantial chart success, The Commodores finally scored their first #1 hit with the Lionel Richie-penned ballad “Three Times a Lady,” which was taken from their album Natural High. The single stayed at #1 for two weeks.⁠


🔷 1963 : Sir Mix-a-Lot of “Baby Got Back” fame was born Anthony Ray in Seattle, Washington.⁠
