Great to have you back on the StreamLINE Music Blog. Congrats on the new EP release! How did you develop the concept of the Mood Swings EP?

Thanks for having me back. When 2019 ended one of my goals for the new year was to touch on some personal topics and be more relatable to the listeners.

I thought a mood swing concept will be a great idea because it is something that everyone goes through. No matter which social class you might fall in everyone has mood swings.

The track “Everyday” can resonate with many people as you detail typical life issues i.e. hustling through the 9-5 grind, difficulty finding quality employment or just simply trying to improve your situation. It’s an introspective song. What was it like writing that type of song?

I never really touched too much on my personal life throughout my music but as I said before one of my goals for 2020 was to touch on some more personal topics.

When it came to writing this song it was more so of me just telling my story and how I feel about my situation day in and day out. It also shows that no matter how successful a artist or any creative might be you don’t know what they are really dealing with behind the scenes.

I think this song defines the project when we think of “Mood Swings” which is the reason why I put it as the first track to set the tone for the concept of the project. It is something that any creative and/or entrepreneur can relate to.

The EP really takes you on a journey of contrasting vibes and emotions. What was the recording process like? Did you work with any other producers on the project?

The recording process was very dope.

I record music all the time so it wasn’t a thing to where we sat down and recorded these four tracks in one session but every song was definitely a unique vibe especially because I was stepping out of my comfort zone and challenging myself by inviting listeners more into my personal life.

I worked with my producer Willis Love on the project. We didn’t have any other producers.

“Un-Loyalty” is a cautionary tale of fake friends and bad-minded individuals that one may encounter in personal and business interactions. Please describe the inspiration behind that track.

I think you hit it on the head when you said “personal and business interactions.”

The inspiration definitely comes from different experiences that I have had both personally and professionally during the past few years. I think it is very important to pay attention to the actions people display in any type of relationship rather it be personal or professional.

As we discussed when we last spoke, on “Oh Nah Nah” you ventured into a new area in your repertoire fusing afrobeats with dancehall. Do you see yourself creating more afrobeats infused tracks and collaborations in the future?

Most definitely! The afrobeats infused tracks is such a vibe and refreshing sound. If you blend it properly how we did on “Oh Nah Nah” you can make something special.

For sure we plan on releasing some more afrobeats infused music in the near future. I already have some tracks recorded and dope afrobeats artist to work with in the near future like Chief Dejjy, Kumi, Nate Wavy, Sudan and of course I’m not done working with Alhaji Currency and Hero.

All of those artists are making great strides respectfully in their own lane and exposing people to the African culture everyday through their music. I can’t wait to fuse these sounds.

I really want to work with Stonebwoy from Ghana. I think our sounds are similar but different and we can make something special.

During these unprecedented times with a worldwide pandemic and social unrest dominating the headlines, what are some things you do to remain positive and focused?

I have been writing and working on music. I have a lot of new dope music just in my back pocket waiting for the proper time to release. I think it’s most important during this time to just get as much work done as possible to keep to craft fresh and improved.

I have also just been learning of course. Learning more how to market myself better, how to improve the fanbase, as well as taking the time out to find the Zoo Rass supporters worldwide and connect with them throughout social media.

You held an IG Live performance with a band in May. Please tell us how your experience was performing for a virtual audience as performers feed off the vibes of a crowd. You guys really turned in an energetic and engaging show. Do you envision another one in 2020?

It was something different but it wasn’t at the same time. When we rehearse its the same thing so it wasn’t much of a problem performance wise.

However I am an artist that interacts with the crowd a lot. So having to interact with a virtual crowd was for sure a little different and challenging especially because I was unable to see what people was saying in the comments.

I would say things like “drop your flags in the comments” but I wouldn’t actually know if they was doing it but comes to find out they were. Doing another concert like this before the year is out is very possible.

If you were to describe each track on the Mood Swings EP in one word, what would those words be?

“Everyday” – Uncertainty

“Happy” – Happy

“Un-Loyalty” – Confusion

“Oh Nah Nah” – Proud

Aside from the music, you have an extensive merchandise catalog on your website. What is the most popular item with fans and which is your personal favorite?

I think the one the supporters love the most right now is the Zoo Rass graphic tee. This actually release last season but every time I turn my head people are ordering that one.

I have another unreleased one that I wore at my virtual concert that a lot of people have been asking for. I think when that drops that will be the new favorite. My personal favorite is the “Exposure Doesn’t Pay My Bills” tee. It is just such a strong message that any creative can relate to.

Exposure Doesn’t Pay My Bills T-Shirt (Black)

As artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs we see many people approach us and promise us exposure as compensation for working. But it’s one thing that they forget…… “EXPOSURE DOESN’T PAY MY BILLS!” This statement t-shirt is a must have for all creatives and entrepreneurs no matter what field that may be in.
