▶️ 2014 : Sam Smith released his debut album, In the Lonely Hour, in the US.⁠ ⁠

▶️ 2008 : With Tha Carter III, Lil Wayne became the first artist since 50 Cent in 2005 to sell more than 1 million copies of an album in a single week. It went on to sell 3 million.⁠ ⁠

▶️ 2006 : Shakira landed her first #1 hit on the Hot 100 when her single “Hips Don’t Lie,” featuring Wyclef Jean, reached the top spot. It broke the record for the most-played pop song in a single week when it aired on U.S. radio 9,637 times.⁠ ⁠

▶️ 1994 : With the U.S. hosting the World Cup, the opening ceremonies were held at Soldier Field in Chicago. In one of the production numbers, Diana Ross sang “I’m Coming Out” while she took a penalty kick. She missed, but the goal split open anyway and she ran through to complete the performance.⁠ ⁠
