Amagiri Young is a rapidly emerging recording artist and producer on the hip-hop landscape. The dynamic rapper based out of Long Island, New York has a full length, 17-track album to his name titled Rhythm and Vibration, released earlier this year, and now the innovative artist has upped the ante with his latest effort, a 4-track EP project fittingly titled “RNB YOUNG”.
On this latest project, Amagiri masterfully bends the boundaries between the hip-hop and R&B genres with a record that represents an exceptional display of what a top notch fusion of the two sound like.
“RNB YOUNG” captures the soulful vibe, harmonies and riveting melodies that drive R&B music while injecting a raw energy and palpable edge that’s intrinsic to the hip-hop sound. All aspects of the project have this distinct characteristic spanning from the production to the lyricism and most importantly, Amagiri’s vocal performance in which he seamlessly interchanges between a commanding and bold rap flow into silky smooth harmonies driving his singing style. Amagiri’s vocal acrobatics exhibit his versatility and keen ability to harness an instrumental with his vocal presence.
The four tracks all center on the various stages of romance, relationships and the emotions they invoke. For example, “Queen of Hearts” is an ode…. a direct appeal to a woman, almost like a mating call, while “Lovers and Friends” touches on a tale of a couple tied to other people who are having a secret love affair. “Faded Memories” captures a concept of trying to relive the best moments from the past in the relationship while “Patience”, as the title suggests represents a longing for intimacy.
The soundscapes throughout the project have a quintessential R&B feel and as noted above, incorporate a influential dose of hip-hop elements, particularly “Faded Memories” which is almost like a trap hip-hop/R&B blend driven by a pulsating drum line and irresistible rolling piano riff.
Also of note, “Patience’ boasts a majestic percussion section that’s hard hitting in tone and style while also possessing elements in the production that give it a suspenseful, cinematic mystique.
