St.Nickk is an emerging young rapper hailing out of Chicago, Illinois who possesses a dynamic skillset when it comes to style and flow. The Windy City native incorporates a diverse variety of genres into his rap portfolio such as Indie-Pop, Hip Hop, Rap, Alt Rock, and even dropping some tracks in the Experimental space just to name a few examples.

The track of today’s spotlight is St. Nickk’s latest effort titled “Can’t Stand the Rain” which is due for release on all streaming platforms April 14. St. Nickk also has a debut album ready to hit the scene which is fittingly titled Saint and Sinners. The debut LP is scheduled to drop next month on May 12.

“Can’t Stand the Rain” captures St.Nickk’s signature rap flow that creatively encompasses a melodious style with a penchant for projecting an authentically emotive and introspective lyricism. He masterfully exhibits such a vocal dexterity on other tracks in his expanding catalog such as “Lonesome“, “All On My Own” and “Die Yung” and he brings that exact flavor to “Can’t Stand the Rain”.

What jumps out immediately to me upon first listening to the track is that St.Nickk fuses prominent elements of emo rap, sad rap and cloud rap with an alt-pop twist – – – it creates quite a unique sound that commands your attention and also sparks your listening senses.

An ambient guitar riff is the melodic backbone of the song’s instrumentation….it has a celestial, atmospheric presence as it rides the low end spectrum of the song’s soundscape which is driven by a trap-like pounding kick drum and booming bass line.

The top notch production on “Can’t Stand the Rain” is the backdrop to a song that contains an intense sentiment lyrically which details St.Nickk’s attempt to persevere through a bad breakup all while in the midst of experiencing a dizzying series of conflicting emotions.

St.Nickk adds some context into understanding the song’s concept as he shares the following:

Cant Stand The Rain” is about past heartbreak that I’ve experienced, it helped me with songwriting where I could put real emotion into my songs and hopefully provide something my audience could relate to, as heartbreak is common and something everybody goes through. This song is also about moving past that heartbreak and breaking apart from my old self, in a sense of self reflection, and the come-up I am going through now after the breakup, showing that even though they left me at my lowest I was able to build myself back up and become something and someone better without them.

St.Nickk conveys the deep-seated emotions in the song’s lyrics in an impassioned manner which comes off with an appealing genuineness, like you can virtually sense the resentment and conflict of feelings in his voice. The various feelings range from a brazen vitriol for his ex to a stance that he’s fully committed to moving on and stepping up his game to progress in life. Hey, this is a track that is definitely something that many listeners can relate to and is something that could apply to many real-life situations for both males and females.

Lyrics for “Can’t Stand the Rain”

Yeah

I can’t stand the rain so I started to run
Run away, Run away, Oh oh

I can’t stand the rain
So I started to run
I hate all these games being played with my heart
I get high as hell above the clouds
I’m still in the dark
I can’t see the light

Tell me why you lying
Why the fuck you crying
You know what you did
And you can’t take it back
All the broken promises
No more of that nonsense
I don’t wanna hear it

I’m done, I give up
I’m so done, I give up
I don’t wanna talk
No, I don’t wanna speak
I’m done with that true love shit
It was all just make believe
I believed it

And I admit that I was wrong
Hoping that I was right
And I was proved dead wrong
I was the boy who cried wolf
With all my overthinking
Where did I go wrong?

Don’t try again cause
It won’t end the same way
No we can’t stay as friends
Who the fuck you think you playing?
Yeah, I’m on top now I’m up in that money game

I been leveling up, Benjamins I got tucked
In my wallet, I don’t just talk it, I walk it
If this was a race, then I’d be Usain Bolt
I pick all of my shots like Kobe
Yeah, I’m the young goat
These niggas and these bitches talkin
Always do the most

I can’t stand the rain
So I started to run
I hate all these games being played with my heart
I get high as hell above the clouds
I’m still in the dark
I can’t see the light

Tell me why you lying
Why the fuck you crying
You know what you did
And you can’t take it back
All the broken promises
No more of that nonsense
I don’t wanna hear it

I’m done, I give up
I’m so done, I give up
I don’t wanna talk
No, I don’t wanna speak
I’m done with that true love shit
It was all just make believe
I believed it

And I admit that I was wrong
Hoping that I was right
And I was proved dead wrong
I was the boy who cried wolf
With all my overthinking
Where did I go wrong?

I’m done, I give up
I’m so done, I give up
They don’t wanna see you win
They just wanna see you fall
So prove ’em all wrong

I can’t stand the rain
So I started to run
I hate all these games being played with my heart
I get high as hell above the clouds
I’m still in the dark
I can’t see the light

Tell me why you lying
Why the fuck you crying
You know what you did
And you can’t take it back
All the broken promises
No more of that nonsense
I don’t wanna hear it
