Let us introduce you to the healing world of a music consortium which goes by the name of Prayer Pray. This uniquely formed outfit of multi-instrumentalists has carved a niche composing a wide selection of new age-type relaxing songs that feature such instruments as the harp, guitar, violin, cello, piano and flute. Prayer Pray has collectively displayed their musical gifts on such previous album projects as Relaxing Cello Music, Beautiful Harp Music and Heavenly Violin & Cello Instrumentals.
As you may infer from their name, Prayer Pray also fosters a culture of spirituality surrounding their music creations as well as in the manner which they carry themselves in their personal lives. You might say their artistry is divinely inspired. An excerpt from their website summarizes their approach to music perfectly as it states, “the goal of Prayer Pray is to spread peace, love, kindness and joy around the world with our relaxing music”.
With that said, Prayer Pray has stepped outside of their typical recordings in their latest release, as they have embarked on a music journey which taps into their Celtic roots. It has resulted in a project titled “Celtic Music (Relaxing Celtic Instrumentals)”, a full-length album of twenty-eight magnanimous compositions.
The new album embraces the traditional Celtic sound and further displays the group’s adept musicianship and understanding of human emotions…more so, what tones, notes and phrases can heal and put the mind at ease. They shared the following when describing the concept of the album:
This album is different than what we have done in the past. We have always loved listening to Celtic music so we decided to experience. It felt great to produce! We are very blessed to create beautiful relaxing music and get in touch with our Celtic roots.
As referenced above, “Celtic Music (Relaxing Celtic Instrumentals)” contains the core elements of Celtic music, particularly with its incorporation of the mandolin, whistle and perhaps a zither in a majority of the songs; quintessential instruments used in Celtic style. However, what I found additionally intriguing about the project is the folk and new age genres infused into the grand scheme of the music. The ethereal soundscapes that are present in many of the songs provide a new age mystique while the minimalist approach to composition exudes a folk, old world European aura.
Selections which stood out to me personally such as “The Celtic Dream I Had”, “Faith Begins” and “All Around” are just a few of the examples characterizing the sound of this album. While I’ve lauded the nature of the musicality that Prayer Pray has provided in these songs, I must also reference the brilliant listening experience that is bolstered by the crisp clarity of the instruments….pristinely played!
The hallmark of an impactful instrumental is one that tells a story, even in the absence of words, from the emotions that each note projects to the style in which the instrument is played. A great example of this is the song “So Long, My Friend”. The harmonics and tonality paint a subtly solemn story as this could connotate bidding farewell to a friend who is deceased or a long-time friend who is moving away or leaving a place you both work at.
