To the delight of their dedicated and fervent fandom called A’TIN, Filipino supergroup SB19 has returned with the release of their highly anticipated single “WYAT” (Where You AT), accompanied by a dazzling music video premiere.
The internet and social media was buzzing all day yesterday and continues throughout today as the popular 5-member outfit launch the follow up to their critically acclaimed EP Pagsibol from 2021. Exciting times for sure!
“WYAT” explores the theme of reconnecting bonds after a troubled time. SB19 member Pablo shared the inspiration behind the song in a recent press statement,
We’ve been performing for almost half of our lives together, and due to the pandemic, our world was suddenly put on hold. I felt a disconnection among the group brought about by the lockdown, and I’ve wanted to reach out to them through this song.
“WYAT” is a sizzling pop/dance track which infuses a classic retro vibe of the sound which dominated pop music in the 80’s and 90s. It brings on a rush of nostalgia as you listen to the song, as well as when you take in the compelling visuals, which brilliantly incorporates a Grease 60’s theme. Set to a variety of vintage scenarios and backdrops, the fashion and look of the era are masterfully captured.
Always, impeccably choreographed, SB19 delivers with a boatload of eye-catching dance segments throughout the video. The dance pieces contain a fusion of the contemporary with classic styles. All around, the song and video project an amazing vibe that’s filled with positivity and a “feel-good’ aura…it’s one of those tracks that just want to make you dance.
The stellar production (produced by Pablo and his brother Josue) features a funky guitar riff and a bevy of melodious electronic synths throughout which set the stage for a dynamic vocal performance by SB19. Their vocal deliveries are vibrant and full of zest; the energy in their respective voices beams and makes for an outstanding listening experience.
The “WYAT” single and music video are precursors to the kickoff of a worldwide tour for the group which is slated to begin in the Philippines on September 17 at the Araneta Coliseum. The concert was completely sold out in less than 24 hours once tickets were made available.
The full tour itinerary has not been released yet, however, the popular group is expected to make stops across major cities in Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Canada and the U.S., including Los Angeles and New York City.
Further demonstrating why they are hailed as the Kings of P-pop (SB19 holds the proud distinction of being the first Filipino act to be a Billboard Music Awards nominee), SB19 has dropped another gem for A’TIN and the many music listeners around the world who will become new fans.
