Enter the thought-provoking world of recording artist Dace Mars and you can certainly ensure your mental and listening senses are in for an incredible journey. The dynamic artist and producer has developed a unique approach to his artistry which embraces his Japanese and European heritage wholeheartedly via his creation of chillstep and lo-fi music. Dace sets out to create music that blends the sounds from both cultures together with the sonics of the contemporary landscape that chillstep and lo-fi provide.
Dace masterfully achieves his artistic aim with a new debut album release, titled, “The Eternal Tao”, a tremendously insightful compilation of eight compositions which brilliantly contain audio excerpts from “The Taoist Way”, by the famed lecture by English philosopher, writer and orator Alan Watts. The profound messaging contained in these clips are perfectly placed over a calm, mellow and relaxing assortment of chillstep instrumentation.
The inspiration behind the album goes beyond just an artistic inclination as Dace explains, “Alan Watts, chillstep helped me through a really dark time during this pandemic, and this album was a way to help pass on the peace”.
Kudos go out to Dace on developing such an idea and possessing the keen ear for production to manifest it into reality. One glance at the track listing provides you some insight into the attention to detail and thought that Dace put behind this innovative album as the tracks’ titles are simple yet communicate core emotions or circumstances that are extremely relatable to any person no matter their background…. “Presence”, Feelings”, “Escape”, “Relief”, Freedom” are examples of some of the songs on “The Eternal Tao”.
The appealing electronic drum tracks and melodic low-end basslines are wonderfully complemented by an incredible group of worldly instrumentation…. violins, mandolins, sitars just to name a few that are engaging and captivate your attention. A wondrous infusion of airy vocal interpolations, choir-like phrases, piano laden chords and deep pads provide the mysterious and ethereal mystique to the tracks on the album that are a terrific backdrop to the enlightening philosophical words.
The Tao is not something different from nature, from ourselves, from our surrounding trees and waters and air. The Tao is the way all that behaves. And so the basic Chinese idea of the universe is really that it’s an organism.

“The Eternal Tao” is a seminal album that can fit any situation whether functioning as a vehicle of focus, study, meditation or relaxation. Even if you are someone that is not particularly philosophical in the way that you approach your everyday life, this album is a magnificent introduction into a variety of thought-provoking content as well as an extremely stimulating musical experience.
