  • Hi Aiela, Welcome to StreamLINE! Thank you for taking some time out to speak with us about your artistry and music career. We’re looking forward to our audience learning more about you. Thanks again. We appreciate it!
  • Please tell us a bit about your background, where you’re from etc.

I am a singer-songwriter from the Philippines. I believed I was born to be a musician. I’ve been singing since I was two years old. As a child, I was always interested in playing instruments, and when I was 14 years old, I was able to learn how to play the guitar through YouTube.

I began writing songs when I began to experience intense emotions. My songs are usually inspired by diverse aspects of love and sadness. I love using music to take my listeners to another world. I am a firm believer in self-love and see it as the most important thing in the world.

  • What were your early music influences?

My first musical memory is of songs from the 1980’s and 1990’s that were always playing on my dad’s speakers. My grandfather and uncle were also musicians, and they were early inspirations on me. As years moved, I became more interested in mainstream musicians such as Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, to name a few. I’ve been a lover of pop culture for as long as I can remember, and it has had a significant impact on me and my music.

  • What would you say was the defining moment or point in your life when you decided to pursue music professionally?

I’ve always wanted to pursue music professionally since I was a child. I just didn’t have the courage to fight for it, considering that I didn’t have much support for choosing it as a career path to begin with.

I joined a talent show at my university, and while singing, I asked the crowd to sing along with me, which they gladly did; that moment fueled my passion even more. It was the turning point in my life where I realized that music is truly what I want to do for the rest of my life. After that, I started songwriting again, and here we are.

  • How would you describe the music that you typically create? How has it evolved since your first single, “Try Again”?

I love making up stories and adding them into my songs. I believe that no matter what style I choose, my audience will always be drawn to the stories behind my tracks. It’s the link between myself and my listeners.

“Try Again” was the foundation for everything. My music, both in terms of songwriting and production, is evolving, as is everything else. It improves as I learn new things every day. My music, I believe, will continue to grow as I navigate the music scene.

  • You released a captivating project earlier this year with the “Storyline EP”. How did the EP develop and come together musically? What made you decide to convey the album’s theme in a book format as well?

During the lockdown, I had a lot of time to process my emotions and write songs about them. While playing to the songs that I wrote, I noticed that they are in sequence. I then decided to release them as an EP. It  was a lot of fun to make because I got to work with my friends on it. They were also the ones that helped me bring my concepts into life. One of those concepts was the book “Storyline”.

When it came to choosing the cover art, I knew it had to include a book in the picture because the EP’s tracks tell a story in the same manner that a book does. And what better way to expand on the story than to write a book? The book, I believe, is the missing piece of the puzzle.

  • Please tell us about your latest single, “Dance with the Devil”. What’s the concept and what inspired it? What was the recording process like?

“Dance With The Devil,” my newest single, tells the story of a villain who is pleased that she stole someone’s lover. I used the devil as a metaphor for the person who cheated because the word “Devil” kind of represents a cheater. This song focuses on how the villain views her secret love affair with the devil.

Dance With The Devil was inspired by real-life people as well as movie characters. It was a lot of fun to record. It’s a track that was created entirely online through the sharing of demos. It’s an unforgettable experience just building it, adding vocals, and making sure it characterizes the story.

  • The music video for “Dance with the Devil” is a compelling blend of vivid and sensual imagery. It really captures the vibe of the song. Did you already envision something like this when writing it? What was it like filming?

I had an idea for the story even before I started writing it. All I had to do for the video was refine the story and concepts with my team/friends. Filming the video was both challenging and fun. I made the video with the help of my cousins. It was a two-day shoot with lots of laughs and snack breaks. To finish the video, we had to have a sleepover.

We weren’t experienced videographers or directors, which was a challenge, but I think we did very well considering our lack of experience. The video turned out wonderful, and I’m glad to say that we created it entirely on our own. It was all made possible by the dedication of those who helped me in putting it together.

  • Please tell our readers the story behind the eye-catching snake ring that we’ve seen you wearing in many of your social media posts

Snakes are used to signify deception, deceit, and conniving. The ring, as shown in the photos, was pointing in the direction of the person wearing it. Throughout the “Dance with the Devil” campaign, I played the role of the villain. Wearing the ring in that manner conveyed to my audience that the character was devious.

  • What hobbies and interests do you have outside of your music endeavors?

Aside from music, I enjoy watching TV shows and movies. I love seeing how a fictional character evolves. It truly teaches many life lessons. I also enjoy reading books, specifically fiction. Something about being able to imagine what I’m reading appeals to me. It’s an enchanted feeling. Another thing I enjoy is spending time with the people I love. Going on a road trip with them, watching movies with them, and all that sort of thing.

  • What is the best advice you’ve been given so far, professionally or personally?

Someone once told me in high school that I should always be myself, that I should make myself happy and that I should never try to please others by trying to be someone or something I am not. I began to love myself more after hearing that bit of advice. I believe that we will never be completely happy unless we prioritize ourselves. The first step toward happiness is self-love.

  • What’s next musically for you as 2021 wraps up and progresses into the new year?

I just extended the “Dance with the Devil” era with “D.W.T.D. Versions,” and I’m working on a new release. Hopefully, it will be ready before the end of the year. But if that isn’t possible, I’m guessing the beginning of 2022 will be something huge, and they’ll have to keep an eye out for that.
