Despite having only formed back in June 2018, Manchester-based three-piece VELVET SHAKES and their genre-transcending sound have wasted no time in establishing themselves amongst the city’s infamous music scene.
With five singles already released, and relentless gigging throughout Manchester, and further afield in Liverpool, Newcastle, and Leeds already behind them, the band has spent plenty of time developing their sound. The VELVET SHAKES share a love for indie, disco, and house music. The result is a blend of indie-based guitar melodies, psychedelic synths, and disco-infused groove, capable of getting even the most stubborn of crowds moving.
Having ended 2019 with a packed-out support slot with Crazy P at Manchester’s Gorilla, the band was set to soar in 2020. Their newly reinvigorated, high-energy, charisma-filled live show had them confirmed for the likes of Focus Wales and Kendal Calling, building on already established support from the likes of BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, and XS Manchester. But there’s always 2021…
The EP is four tracks long, including the songs “Material Life,” “Can You Do the Right Thing,” “Alone Again,” and “Your Love.”

About The Band
Band Members:
Josh Bithell – Vocals & Synth & Guitar
Scott Hill – Guitar & Vocals
Anthony Hickey – Drums
In the band’s own words:
“Our four-track debut EP is called Mellowdrama. Because it both encapsulates the passion and emotion of a traditional ‘melodrama’ but also because it was created during lockdown when life had never been so ‘mellow’ being stuck in our homes whilst outside and on the news all of this ‘drama’ was unfolding.”
