  • Castilho – Numbers
  • Castilho is the moniker of Pedro Castilho, a synth player and backing vocalist of the psychedelic rock band Savanna.

Having developed a more mellow sound as a solo artist since his debut project in 2017, we’re going to talk about Castilho’s latest single “Numbers”.

“Numbers” has an upbeat jazzy and soulful feel with a combination of contemporary pop elements.

The tone and texture of the composition truly brings you back in time to the sonics of commercial releases in the 60’s and 70’s.

Castilho further uplifts the song with his bright and resonant vocals. It’s a feel good track that gets your head nodding and wrapped up in the groove.

Castilho describes it, the rhythm this song came out with the initial Rhodes riff. Its funky vibe brought to a upbeat inspired by 70’s Motown, which gives a lively feel to the track.

  • Islington – “This Lullaby”
  • Islington is Luke Smyth, a singer-songwriter born in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Luke started playing music at a young age and his interests at that time were mainly drawn to punk rock because of its energy and he admits honestly that “a power chord was easy to play at 14 years old”

Fast forward to today as Luke honed his skills from early on playing in a variety of bands throughout high school and into his late twenties.

That brings us to today’s main topic, his latest release “Lullaby”.

“Lullaby” has a crisp, refreshing quality to it that gives it an extremely appealing tone…a bright sonic quality.

It’s a solid track that possesses pristine production and precise vocal arrangement.

It displays Luke’s keen ear for song structure and how it can make or break a song with the slightest misstep.

I also commend Luke on an excellent job with high level of his songwriting and lyricism.

I enjoy how the song’s concept comes together and matches with the aural energy of the instrumentation extremely well.

  • Jenny Kern – “Where Did The Time Go”
  • Jenny Kern is a Canadian born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter that has crafted her distinct sound with a dreamy indie pop flair.

Jenny’s voice has garnered global attention since her 2019 debut. The momentum has seen her invited to perform on her first international tour in Europe and she has been featured on major outlets such as MTV, ABC and the CW.

Continuing her success from these early triumphs, Jenny has maintained the pace swimmingly in 2021 as music from her catalog has been placed on several Spotify editorial playlists which collectively total over 1 million followers.

Now we take a look at Jenny’s latest release from August 20 titled “Where Did the Time Go”, a pandemic inspired track that delves into a search for the meaning of life and where does one fit in the grand scheme of it all.

Jenny says, “Where Did The Time Go” is a relentlessly honest song about a constant struggle with anxiety. “I started writing this song in the midst of the pandemic while having an existential crisis of not knowing what my purpose was or why I was existing.”

Jenny’s angelic voice flows seamlessly across the lush instrumentation and even as she croons ever so softly in a mellow tone, her voice envelops you into the heart of the song’s concept.

You find yourself lulled into pondering and reflecting on yourself in relation to the questions and points she addresses in the song.

“Where Did You Go” is a wonderful testament to Jenny’s authenticity and songwriting skills in conveying her emotions perfectly into musical form.

“Sweet Heaven is a recent release of Keeana’s and it’s accompanied by a captivating music video (link below).

“Sweet Heaven” was written as a prayer, inspired by the idea that a combination of belief and action will achieve desired result whatever the goal. This video, however, was inspired by the events happening in US when undocumented immigrants were forcibly deported back to their home countries despite having relatives in USA and even being separated from their families and children. Visual for this song is taking you through the story of a Latin American native walking day and night through the desert, crossing the US border despite all the obstacles so he can reunite with his daughter on the American land. There is always someone or something in your life that will help you overcome any obstacle, be your savior, your Sweet Heaven.

“Sweet Heaven” is an outstanding pop tune that contains a worldly fusion of multi-cultural sounds. The predominant vibe is a tropical Afro-Caribbean feel, however the instrumentation carries elements from a multitude of genres.

Natalie has crafted an encouraging, vibrant and vivid pop track with an anthemic type, catchy chorus.

The song is strong in all aspects from production to lyrical content to Natalie’s tremendous vocal performance.

Her vocals flow flawlessly over the lush instrumentation and draws in the listener with her harmonics and distinct tone. Natalie describes the inspiration for “I See You” below.

After watching an interview with Michelle Obama and Oprah, talking about helping people, especially young women and kids, feel seen and heard, I felt inspired to write about it. Everyone needs reassurance every now and then, and I wrote the song to uplift and offer hope to the listener. It’s for anyone and everyone, just trying to do their best and put one foot in front of the other, despite facing obstacles, challenges or feeling lost or down. Sometimes we need a reminder that we’re not alone and hopefully this song can reassure people of that.
