Pete Parada, drummer of The Offspring has disclosed in an Instagram post that he has been dismissed from the band due to his skeptical opinion about the COVID-19 vaccine and how it relates to his personal medical history.
The drummer was ultimately dropped from the band and their upcoming tour over his refusal to get vaccinated.
Parada started the Instagram post that he had some “unfortunate and difficult news to share.”
“Given my personal medical history and the side-effect profile of these jabs, my doctor has advised me not to get a shot at this time,” his note read.
“I caught the virus over a year ago, it was mild for me – so I am confident I’d be able to handle it again, but I’m not so certain I’d survive another post-vaccination round of Guillain-Barre Syndrome which dates back to my childhood and has evolved to be progressively worse over my lifetime.
According to recent stats and reports, the COVID-19 Delta variant has been spreading rapidly among individuals who are not vaccinated.
As such, there has been a surge of increased requirements levied by concert organizers for anyone in attendance to be vaccinated.
These actions by concert promoters have been equally implemented by various state and corporate mandates across the country.
Parada explained that “Since I am unable to comply with what is increasingly becoming an industry mandate, it has recently been decided that I am unsafe to be around, in the studio, and on tour.””I mention this because you won’t be seeing me at these upcoming shows,” he said. “I also want to share my story so that anyone else experiencing the agony and isolation of getting left behind right now knows they’re not entirely alone.”
Parada says that he harbors “no negative feelings” toward the guys that he has called bandmates since 2007.
He reasons, “They’re doing what they believe is best for them, while I am doing the same,” his note read. “Wishing the entire Offspring family all the best as they get back at it!”
What are your thoughts on this?
Parada has dedicated almost 15 years to The Offspring and to be dismissed unceremoniously over a personal medical choice is in my opinion, invasive and a violation of his rights.
Unfortunately, I don’t believe this is an isolated incident and we will likely see more of these type of separations occur throughout the music industry.
