The hip-hop world has been dealt another blow as another one of its innovative and pioneering contributors has passed away.

Shock G (real name Gregory Jacobs) of the Digital Underground has passed away at age 57.

The multi-dimensional rapper and producer was discovered in a hotel room in Tampa, Florida.

No cause of death has been determined or released to the public at the moment.

Shock G’s passing was confirmed by producer and Digital Underground co-founder Chopmaster J, who broke the sad news on his Instagram feed.

Chopmaster captioned the IG post: “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some.”

Tributes quickly poured out on social media following Chopmaster’s post as fellow rappers and fans reminisced about their favorite Shock G music and moments.

Shock G co-founded Digital Underground with Chopmaster J and the late Kenny-K in 1987 in the Bay area.

The group’s music was influenced tremendously by the p-funk sound of the 70’s most notably championed by Parliament Funkadelic, George Clinton and Bootsy Collins.

Digital Underground is also credited with launching the career of rap icon, Tupac Shakur who was an early member of the group.

One of Digital Underground’s most popular singles was “The Humpty Dance”, released in 1990, which featured the witty and comedic flow of Shock G’s alter ego, Humpty Hump.
