Black Rob, born Robert Ross, best known for his 2000 smash hit “Whoa,” has died at the age of 51 of kidney failure.

The death of the Harlem native was confirmed by former Bad Roy Records label mate Mark Curry, who took to Instagram with a tearful and emotional post yesterday.

“Rob passed away about an hour ago,” Curry tearfully said as he walked down the street choked up.

It was just last week that Curry had shared a GoFundMe appeal to provide financial assistance for Black Rob to “find a home, pay for medical help & stability during these trying times.”

The appeal was launched as many people in the hip-hop industry had become alarmed and grew concerned about Black Rob, after videos of him surfaced from a hospital bed in Atlanta remembering the late DMX.

Concerns for Black Rob increased even further due to a subsequent series of videos that detailed his own medical issues. The series of posts were shared by DJ Self last week.

“I’ve been dealing with this for five years. Four strokes. I don’t know what to tell you… I don’t have no house to live in,” the rapper said.

An outpouring of tributes have come from the hip-hop community as it comes to terms with losing another one of its beloved contributors.

Black Rob signed to Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy Records in the mid-1990’s.

His smash hit “Whoa!” peaked at #43 on the Billboard Top 100, but continues its legacy as a party jam over 20 years later driven by its emphatic hook.
